SNOW FALL ANALYSIS OVER PENINSULAR ITALY IN THE LAST 20 YEARS: FIRST RESULTS
The time series of snow data for a sample of Italian meteorological stations have been analyzed taking into account, for the time series, an acceptable continuity and quality of meteorological data. The data set is that of the Italian Meteorological Service (UGM), and refer to the period 1982–2004 for 26 stations. The Slovenian station of Kredarica, located in the Julian Alps, has been added for convenience.
The study is composed of two different parts:
-Spatial climatologic analysis of the snow during the last 20 years. In particular, the height of the fresh snow, the days with snowfall (> 1cm) and the number of days with permanence of snow at the ground have been analyzed, in relationship with altitude and with also topo-geographic parameters.
-Seasonal trend study for the same parameters: the results of the analisys are a absolutely unespected. In particular, is obvius, to forehard an generalised decrease in the Alpine sistem and in central and north Apennine too, an increasing of the snowfalle and of the persistence of the snow to the ground in the southern part of Apennine, specially in the Lucanian sector. |
